A vibrant gem by a well-listed artist. MacGinnis was born in Indiana and began his art studies under the eminent Hoosier artists T.C. Steele, J.O. Adams, and William Forsyth. In 1900 he left Indiana to study in Europe, studying at the Royal Academy in Munich and in Paris. Upon his return to the states he settled in Trenton, New Jersey and became an instructor at the School of Industrial Art. In 1908 William Merritt Chase selected MacGinnis' painting "New Hampshire Hills" for the 19th Annual Exhibition of the Philadelphia Art Club, a major exhibition that included works by Cassatt, Hassam, and Chase. MacGinnis exhibited widely and was a member of the American Artists Professional League, Allied Artists, the Salmagundi Club, and the Hoosier Salon. He painted throughout the northeast and later moved to Fairlee, Vermont.
