Richardson (1853 - 1923)</B></div> <div> <B>Salt Marshes</B></div> <div> <I>oil on board, 6" x 9", signed lower right</I></div> <bR> <div> <I>Massachusetts artist Louis Richardson was born in New Bedford and lived there all of his life.  As an artist, he was a pioneer in promoting the appreciation of local art in his city.  Richardson was a charter member of the New Bedford Art Club, and later organized the New Bedford Fine Arts Society in 1921.  A self-taught painter, he became an early inhabitant of Salters Point in South Dartmouth, where he set up his studio and became known for his tonal paintings of the salt marshes.  </I><I>As well as being a fine artists, he was also a talented baseball player, known as the "Home Run King of 1870."  </I></div> </td> </tr></table></body>
