An excellent work by a major New York and New England landscape painter and teacher. Most closely associated with Woodstock, New York where he founded his art school in 1922, he also co-founded, with Emile Gruppe, a summer school in Gloucester. Carlson came to the United States from Sweden in 1883 and settled in Buffalo where he studied at the Albright Art Gallery. He then studied at the ASL in New York with Birge Harrison and Frank V. DuMond. He was elected into the National Academy in 1911 and made a full Academician in 1925.
