A delicately rendered painting of cows, the subject for which the artist is best known. Thomas Bigelow Craig was a member of the National Academy, exhibiting at the annuals for 45 years. Born in Philadelphia, he was primarily self-taught, but did study at the Pennsylvania Academy and began to exhibit there in 1869. He also may have studied with Thomas Eakins while studying at the Philadelphia Sketch Club from 1873 - 1876. Craig was also a member of the Salmagundi Club and exhibited at the Boston Art Club, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Brooklyn Art Club.
