A beautiful moody impressionist landscape, most likely Connecticut. Leonard Ochtman was born in Holland and came with his family to New York as a young boy. He exhibited widely with great success and was known for his softly painted landscapes, often painted near Greenwich or along the Mianus River. His wife Mina and daughter Dorothy were also well-established artists. Ochtman was a member of the National Academy, the Brooklyn Art Association, the Lotos Club, a founder of the Greenwich Art Association, the Woodstock Art Association, the American Watercolor Society, and the New York Watercolor Club. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy, the Boston Art Club, The Columbian Expo 1891, the Pan-American Expo 1901, the St. Louis Expo 1904, winning numerous medals and awards. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Bruce Museum, the National Gallery, the Brooklyn Institute and many more.
