A fresh spring landscape. Hobart Nichols was the son of engraver Henry Hobart Nichols. born in Washington, D.C., he studied at Shortledge College in Pennsylvania, at the Art Students League, and in Germany and France. He was elected into the National Academy in 1912, becoming a full academician in 1920, and serving as president from 1939 - 1949. He was also a fellow of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and a member of allied Artists, the Washington Watercolor Society, the New York Watercolor Society, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and the North Shore Art Associciation. Nichols exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran (21 biennials), the PAFA, the National Academy and many more, winning numerous prizes and awards.
