Fidelia Bridges, A.N.A. (1834 - 1923)

A perfect gem and excellent example of the detailed natural landscapes for which the artist is known. Fidelia Bridges was born in Salem, Massachusetts, the daughter of a shipmaster. She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and with William Trost Richards, who became her mentor. She exhibited her paintings in New York and Philadelphia and was elected into the National Academy in 1879. She exhibited for many years at the Pennsylvania Academy, the National Academy, and the Brooklyn Art Association. She also exhibited at the Philadelphia Expo in 1876 and the Pan-American Expo. in 1901, the St. Louis Expo. in 1904. Bridges first visited Cannan, Connecticut in 1880 and settled there in 1890. Her house, built in 1790, is on High Street near the Blackberry River.
