An excellent example of the artist's work in fine original condition and frame. Shapleigh is one of the best-known and most sought-after painters of the New Hampshire White Mountains. He was born in Boston and studied at the Lowell Institute and in Paris. He was a mmeber of the Boston Art Club, exhbited at the first landscape exhibition of the Boston Athenaeum in 1864 and also at the National Academy of Design. His work is in the collections of the Farnsworth Museum, the New Britain Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, and the New Hampshire Historical Society.
