Benjamin Eggleston (1867 - 1937)
Sleeping Nude
oil on canvas, 6" x 8", signed lower right
Sweet little nude by a New York and Old Lyme artist. Eggleston was born in Minnesota and studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Art with Douglas Volk, and then in Paris. He later lived in New York City and was president of the Brooklyn Art Club. He also exhibited at the National Academy, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Paris Salon, and the Boston Art Club. Eggleston painted many magnificent portraits. Upon his return from France he concentrated on landscapes, painting in the tradition of the Barbizon artists. During summers he was part of the artist colony at Old Lyme.
